Bruce Coates

On April 26, 1956, Bruce Coates was born in the barn manger of the family’s Casper, WY, Field Creek Ranch milk barn due to the sudden arrival with no time to reach a hospital!!  He is the youngest of five siblings, three brothers and one sister.

Early Life and Education

Bruce Coates grew up in the rugged and independent environment of Field Creek Ranch, located just west of Casper, Wyoming.  As the youngest of five siblings, Bruce was immersed in the ranching lifestyle, which shaped his character and work ethic.  His formative years were spent surrounded by the natural beauty of the Wyoming landscape and the values of hard work and perseverance.

Bruce attended Fort Casper Elementary School, where he graduated with honors, showing early signs of both academic and personal excellence.  He continued his education at CY Junior High and graduated with honors as well.  In 1974, he completed his high school education at Natrona County High School, also graduating with honors.

Eager to expand his education, Bruce attended Casper College in Casper, Wyoming.  There, he earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree.  During his time at Casper College, he was awarded the Exxon Scholarship in Technical Engineering.  Bruce also participated in Chinevert Drilling Schools and various Applied Engineering and Technical Oil Field Schools, gaining specialized knowledge that would later fuel his successful career.

Professional Affiliations & Memberships

Bruce is a dedicated member of the International Association of Directional Drilling (IADD), the American Petroleum Institute (API), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Career Journey

Present Day:
Field Creek Ranch LLC (Co-owner)
Bruce currently operates Field Creek Ranch LLC and is also co-owner of New Frontiers Resources.  He is widely recognized as a “Jack of all Trades” and takes pride in his family, including his son’s role as county commissioner.

February 2006 – March 2018:
Crescent Directional Drilling – Region Operations Manager
Oversaw operations, managed customer relations, ensured profitability, and trained staff.

October 1999 – October 2006:
Weatherford/Dailey – Region Manager
Instrumental in launching Dailey Oil Tools in directional drilling and managing sales, personnel, and operations.

October 1989 – October 1999:
Drillex Systems – Directional Driller / Operations Coordinator / Well Planner
Handled multiple operational roles and contributed to company growth and efficiency.

October 1987 – October 1989:
Pro Directional – Directional Driller
Managed job setup, tool requirements, and operational responsibilities.

June 1983 – May 1986:
Sii Dyna Drill – Engineering Coordinator
Worked on development of drilling motors and downhole survey equipment.

April 1979 – June 1983:
Christensen Diamond Products – Tool Technician / Field Operations / Training
Began his career focusing on tool development and field operations.

Personal Life and Legacy

In addition to his career, Bruce is deeply connected to his roots and community in Wyoming.  He is a successful business owner, professional, and family man who takes pride in his children’s accomplishments.

Bruce’s life has been a testament to hard work, dedication, and adaptability.  Whether on the ranch, in the boardroom, or on a drilling rig, he is known for his commitment to excellence.
